London Wasps V DMP Sharks
25/10/09
Sharks travelled south on Sunday to face the London Wasps at their Twyford Avenue ground. Sharks received the kick off and made a positive start but some inventive play at the lineout saw Wasps sneak down the short side for their first try. The Sharks were ever resilient and showed some great pressure and skill from the restart winning several penalties. However inconsistencies at the lineout made it difficult for Sharks to capitalise on the possession. The Sharks backs continued to test the Wasps backline penetrating hard through the centres and using their pace and handling skills to get the ball wide. Sharks went into half time trailing 12-0. Some hard (but fair) words from the team leaders at half time meant the Sharks went into the second half with a new focus and direction. Sharks worked hard defending for the best part of 20 minutes before Wasps broke the defensive line and off loaded to touch down for their third try. Sharks continued to create some impressive phases of rugby right to the final whistle. The game ended 26-0 to London Wasps, a disappointing score line but the Sharks will regroup for training this week to assess their performance and prepare for next Sundays challenge away at Richmond.
