Laura's blog:
I was born in Kendal in Cumbria but have lived most of my life in Lancaster in Lancashire… come on the Red Rose! I went to The University of Teesside in Middlesbrough, that’s why I ended up living in the North East. I did BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy as my degree and after 3 years fancied a change of pace so randomly did an MSc in Forensic Investigation.
I have done every possible job you could imagine including Waitress, Bar Staff, Industrial Cleaner, Cheesecake Maker, Post Woman, Medical Secretary, Door Staff, Warden, Healthy Schools Project Worker & Prison Administrator. Currently I am working as a Purchasing Co-ordinator for a marketing company… who knows what my next job will be?!
I love sport and have been an avid sports participant since the tender age of 5! I started playing rugby at 15 and started my rugby career at Vale of Lune Ladies in Lancaster, playing there for 3 years. At the age of 17, I was selected for the North West U18 squad and captained the side. At the age of 18, I was selected for the England Academy, the highlight of my career, but a serious knee injury at England training kept me out of the game for more than 6 depressing years.
After 3 operations and a lot of physio, I started back playing with Hartlepool Ladies in 2006 and played the odd rugby league game with Peterlee Pumas during the summer. After regaining my confidence and some level of fitness, I was selected for the North East regional squad in the 07/08 season and I have just recently attended HPA’s and Super 4 Trials. I am absolutely loving the challenge of playing high level rugby again which is one of the reasons I moved clubs to join the Sharks. I am really looking forward to the upcoming season and improving all aspects of my game to become a better all round rugby player.
